Character and Word Counter Online

A text counter is a tool that calculates character count (with and without spaces), word count, line count, and byte size in real time as you type or paste. It is essential for writing documents with strict length limits — cover letters, social media posts, blog drafts, and email bodies. Just paste your text for instant results; nothing is sent to a server, so sensitive content stays private.

FAQ

What is the difference between characters with and without spaces?

With spaces includes all whitespace and line breaks in the total count. Without spaces counts only actual characters. Most application forms use the "with spaces" standard.

Why is the byte count different from the character count?

In UTF-8 encoding, Korean characters take 3 bytes each while English letters take 1 byte. Byte limits matter for database fields and SMS transmissions.

Is my text stored on the server?

No. All counting happens in the browser. Your text is never sent to or stored on any server, so sensitive content remains private.

What is the character limit for Twitter (X)?

Regular tweets allow up to 280 characters. URLs count as 23 characters regardless of actual length, and image attachments do not count toward the limit.

Does this work on mobile devices?

Yes, the tool is responsive and works identically on smartphones and tablets. No app installation needed — just open the browser.
